If you’re a coffee fan, you may love – or hate – Starbucks. The massive corporate coffee chain has locations throughout the U.S., and its drinks often go viral on social media. In addition to its massive regular menu, Starbucks also has what is referred to as a “secret menu” of drinks. This secret menu isn’t anything official – it is just drinks that Starbucks fans have invented using ingredients at the store, and which have become popular online. Whether you’re craving a Pink Purple drink or a Key Lime refresher, you can often have a barista make these off-menu drinks for you. Just be sure to be polite, and tip well if your barista is going out of their way to make you a special drink.Even if you aren’t running a Starbucks franchise, having custom-printed plastic cups or double wall paper cups for your fancy coffee drinks can be a boon for your coffee shop. What Is the Starbucks Secret Menu?

When you walk into a Starbucks or pull up at the drive-through, you may be a bit overwhelmed by the menu. It features drinks that fall into eight categories – Oleato, hot coffees, hot teas, hot drinks, Frappuccino blended beverages, cold coffees, iced teas, and cold drinks. Each of these categories has multiple drinks within it, plus the potential to customize the drink based on things like the type of sweetener and dairy used and if you want extra shots of flavoring syrup. With so many drinks on the official menu, you may be wondering why exactly a secret menu is even necessary. First, it is important to understand that the Starbucks secret menu isn’t any type of official menu. In fact, you might try to order one of these drinks and have the barista look at you in total confusion. Instead, the “secret menu” consists of drinks that Starbucks fans have come up with, and due to the power of social media, shared with other Starbucks lovers.

In other words, the Starbucks secret menu doesn’t actually exist. It is simply a collection of unofficial drinks and customization options that aren’t on the standard Starbucks menu. The drinks are typically created by Starbucks enthusiasts who ask baristas to combine existing Starbucks ingredients to come up with a particular drink.

For example, Harry Potter Starbucks fans came up with a whole host of themed drinks, such as the Butterbeer Frappuccino. You can order this drink by asking for a creme Frappuccino blended with three pumps of caramel syrup and three pumps of toffee nut syrup.

Can Secret Menu Items Be Ordered At Any Starbucks Location?

Importantly, Starbucks baristas are not required to either know or make these secret menu items. Many baristas are familiar with more popular secret menu drinks because they have become well-known among customers and are frequently requested. If you do want to order from the Starbucks secret menu, here are a few tips:

  • Be clear about what you want, and be polite. The barista does not have to make a “secret menu” drink for you, so it helps to be kind.
  • Know the recipe, and be able to explain it. Unless it’s a super popular, well-known secret menu item, there is a good chance that the barista won’t know what it is or how to make it.
  • Try to keep your requests as simple as possible, especially when the store is crowded.
  • Be patient, and understand that making a secret menu drink will often take a bit more time than a standard menu item, which the barista may make hundreds of times per week.
  • Be sure to tip. Your barista doesn’t have to make the secret menu item, and these drinks are often more complicated than standard menu items. Tip appropriately!
