If you live on the West Coast, you’ve probably stopped at a Jack in the Box. The chain restaurant is based in California and is instantly recognizable by its red and white color scheme and clown logo. It is also well known for its diverse and ever-changing food options, including burgers, poppers, chicken, and even local specialties. Over the years, Jack in the Box has weathered a number of controversies. Its smart branding has helped it reinvent itself and stay profitable. Today, there are more than 2,000 Jack in the Box locations offering affordable meals that feature staples like burgers, fries, tacos, salads, and even egg rolls.

At Budget Branders, we work with restaurants, food trucks, cafes, boba tea shops, and other businesses to help them get the branded promotional products that they need at a fair price. We offer a full range of custom-printed disposable products, including custom plastic cups, custom paper bags, custom napkins, and more. If you run a quick-service burger place or any other type of restaurant, we have the custom-branded disposables that you need to maximize your marketing budget.

All About Jack in the Box

Founded in 1951, Jack in the Box is a California-based fast food chain that largely operates on the West Coast. It is known for its diverse menu, which includes both standard American fast food fare like chicken tenders, fries, and burgers, as well as options like tacos and egg rolls.Robert Peterson started Jack in the Box after converting one of his existing fast food restaurants in San Diego – a chain named Topsy’s Drive-In – into this new concept. Jack in the Box started as a hamburger stand that focused on drive-through service. It was the first major fast food chain to use a two-way intercom system and to focus on drive-through rather than an eat-in concept. The intercom allowed for much faster service, as one customer could be served at the window while other customers placed their orders.

Topsy’s had a clown theme, which was translated into Jack in the Box’s branding. The original store had a clown on the roof as well as on top of the intercom. It was designed by architect Russell Forester to be a “modern food machine.” The popularity of this quick service restaurant led Peterson to convert all of his locations into Jack in the Box restaurants.

By 1960, Jack in the Box had 180 company-owned locations, primarily in California and the Southwestern United States. By the 1970s, the company began to franchise locations across the United States. However, as it grew, its sales faltered.

Jack in the Box decided to revamp its marketing by getting rid of its logo – a jack-in-the-box toy. It decided to take a new direction by catering to “yuppie” customers rather than families with kids, offering more upscale menu items. This led to an expansion from the original burger-focused menu to include items like seasoned curly fries, salads, and chicken sandwiches.

Today, there are over 2,200 locations – mostly on the West Coast of the United States. While the chain was founded as a hamburger stand, its most popular menu item today is the taco. It differs from many fast food tacos in that the meat and hard taco shell are prepared and frozen at a factory, then deep fried at each restaurant before being topped with lettuce, cheese, and taco sauce.

The Jack in the Box menu features a range of options, including egg rolls, breakfast burritos, and poppers. It also regularly introduces new items on a three to four-month rotation, as well as seasonal items like pumpkin pie shakes. In addition, some locations – like Hawaii – local foods are part of the menu.

Jack in the Box has undoubtedly suffered highs and lows over the years. In particular, an e.coli outbreak in 1993 nearly led the chain into bankruptcy after four children died and more than 600 people were sickened after eating undercooked hamburgers at the chain that were contaminated with the bacteria. Jack in the Box committed to cooking burgers to a minimum safe food temperature and went in a new direction with edgier ads that were designed to show that the chain had made major changes.

Jack in the Box maintains a strong presence in California and throughout the West Coast. Through smart branding and marketing – including a revamped logo and a willingness to tackle problems head-on – it has managed to stay successful through challenging economic situations.
